PORT ELIZABETH – There’s nothing you can tell the RT dancers about cold feet. but they sure know how get rid of the wedding blues. In the merry month of May the Boardwalk Hotel and Convention Centre hosted the annual bridal fair expo, and RT Concerts made the walk down the aisle as brand ambassadors for this prestigious event.
The performers, under the guidance of Tanya Schuch and Bennie Gerber, conceptualized and work shopped an exclusive wedding themed programme for the day. The girls designed and made their very own veils and bouquets, matching it with quaint black tutus and silver corsets. The guys were charmingly kitted out in tuxedos – all in black, with a hint of sparkle here and there.
After the bridal wear was sorted, dance captain Duma and Nicole jumped in with choreography and devised a partner work flash mob to the timeless classic “Get Me To The Church On Time” from My Fair Lady. The flash mob included elements of the traditional wedding procession and celebrations in a highly stylized dance form. Dancer, Sian-Beth Hitchner added more zest to the programme with her dance direction to “I Think I Wanna Marry You”, popularised by Bruno Mars. This flash mob lent itself to more audience interaction, which is something RT Concerts prides itself on – making their patrons part of the experience.
Sadly the weather wasn’t in their favour, and all the pre-planned performance spots were in the grip of cold and rain, and due to technical limitations the flash mobs were put on the shelf.
However, our treasured retail manager and co-ordinator at the Boardwalk, Maureen, soon hopped on-board and lead the cast into the main event where they did brand activations at various stations by means of live statues, meet-and-greet with the guests and part-taking in various photo-shoots with the patrons and vendors alike.
The two vocalists, JD and Johane ware definitively the wedding couple of the day. They looked authentic to such an extent that patrons actually came up to them to congratulate the newlyweds. The dancers made use of the event’s ambience music, and spontaneously danced among the patrons and vendors, adding that celebratory feeling to a big day.
So, a rainy day has never stopped a wedding before…neither a RTC dancer. In fact, it is said that if it rains on your wedding day that you will have a prosperous marriage. And a prosperous day they had. It was yet another event that showcased the special relationship and synergy RT Concerts and Sun International have – a relationship they will nurture and cherish…for better or for worse, for richer or poorer, until death do them part.
